Who was Michael Jackson?

(Character Analysis)

Introduction

Imagine it is June of 2009, you are sitting at your tables eating your usual Cinnamon Toast Crunch with the news blaring in the background. You don't care about the news but then you hear "Reporting, Michael Jackson, dead at the age of 50." Michael Jackson, "King of Pop", dead? Over a decade has passed and there have been many theories revolving around the famous singer and whether or not his death was a homicide. Theories that include Michael faking his own death and him being murdered. All these theories have made accepting his death a little more challenging to believe. Let's examine the different theories that revolve around the death of famous singer Michael Jackson, and the possibility of his death being tied into these two theories.

Character Analysis

The famous singer of the song “Thriller,” was more than just a pretty face with a pretty voice. There were so many things above and below the surface that made Michael who he was. He was talented, emotional, and dependent, and we will uncover if these three things are just a few factors that eventually led to his death.

Michael Jackson, one of the most talented and iconic pop stars in music history. From the Jackson 5, to his solo career, Michael was bursting with creativity and became an inspiration to the whole world in his 50 years of life. At a very young age it was known that Michael would grow up to become a star. He started his music career with the 5 of his brothers and they were known as the Jackson 5 (“Michael Jackson”). He was seen “as the most talented out of his brothers and this helped him boost his solo career in the future” (1). As Michael matured and was embarking on his own music and talent, he managed to create music that everyone young or old could relate to and still listen to today. His album was named “Best Album of the Year,” and he had won countless awards for all of his music (1). It is no doubt that Michael Jackson is known as one of the most talented artists of all time, and his music will continue to live on and inspire many people in this world.

Along with Michael’s prosperous career, there was more to him than just another famous singer. He was considered egotistical and trying to love other people than himself was something that was never in the cards for Michael. This point of view of Michael is “mostly from a disconnect with his childhood and has hurt his character and development”as an adult (Bertram). Growing up, he experienced some traumatic experiences as a child that were never talked about as he got older (1). In many interviews, he would often avoid questions about what it was like as a child and questions about his father (1). In an interview with Oprah Wrinfrey, “he had revealed how scared he was of his father” (1) Because of his experiences as a child, this affected who he became as an adult and how he handled situations. He was emotional, guarded, and confused. Experiencing an unhealthy lifestyle as a child can impact a person mentally, and this created many theories and accusations that he was unfortunately proven guilty of.

Michael was dependent on drugs. After an “incident that started him on painkillers, this quickly turned into an abuse of drugs” (“The Accident That Sparked Jackson’s Addiction.”). Ultimately, his death was ruled a homicide and was caused by the poison of drugs that Michael was prescribed to him (1). It is still unclear whether this was an overdose, but it was assumed because of his history with addiction prior to his death. Because he was dependent on so many different drugs throughout the end of his career, this ultimately made his death questionable and theories began to arise throughout the media. No one will ever truly understand the circumstances of his abuse of drugs. However, this played a role that led to his life being ended, and he went into an overdose. Whether his death was ruled a homicide or not, the start of his drug abuse led him to not be here today.

What Theories are there?

(Conspiracy Theories)

After the death of Michael Jackson, the whole world was in shock. How could this be possible? There was so much noise going around circling his death and whether or not his death was truly a homicide. There are two conspiracy theories that make Michael's death questionable. One theory suggests that Michael was faking his own death, meaning he could still be alive today. Another theory explains how Michael Jackson was actually murdered because the drugs given to him by his doctor could have slowly been poisioning him prior to his death.

The death of Michael Jackson was a tragic event that upset millions around the world. The “King of Pop” died from a drug overdose, and it was ruled a homicide. There were a lot of facts and news articles that came out after his death that just did not seem to be right. Multiple theories came to the surface of what possibly could have happened to Michael Jackson. One theory we are going to develop more information about is the theory that Michael is still alive and he was faking his own death. He went into cardiac arrest; however, “the singer happened to have a closed casket funeral where no one could see his body” (Busfield). This caused the first suspicions of if he was really dead or if his body was even in the casket.

After all of  these suspicions began to rise around the world, devoted singers and fans of Michael Jackson began to role play as the singer. Some people even went to the extremes of getting similar facial surgeries to match Michael Jackson. So many people were developing the same mannerisms, actions, voices, attire, etc. which made the world even more confused if he was really alive or not. There was evidence that following his death, he was being transported from a coroner’s van in his home in Los Angeles but something was caught on video that did not look right (Busfield). A video was able to catch how “the van pulls into some sort of parking garage or unknown public area and the gates suddenly close behind it” (1). Also in this video, a man is seen climbing outside of the back doors and into the building and that man had a lot of physical characteristics that resembled Michael Jackson (1). This video really ignited the theory that Michael Jackson was really faking his own death to escape the cruel world and society and all the debt that he had owed.

Another theory surrounding Michael’s death, and one that even his own daughter was claimed to believe as well, was the theory that he was actually murdered and was being poisioned from the drugs that were prescribed to him. Michael started taking drugs after an incident that had set his hair on fire. Even though he never admitted to having a toxic relationship with drugs, Michael started to abuse the drugs and became heavily dependent on them. After many suspicions and the drug overdose that ultimately led to his death, “authorities declared his death a homicide and charged his physician with giving him the powerful drugs that would kill him” (“Michael Jackson's Final Day”). Michael was being aided with drugs that would help him sleep from Dr. Conrad Murray.

The night before his death, Murray’s car was seen in the driveway as it always was, however Michael was not feeling as well and Murray had given him drugs to help him sleep (“Michael Jackson's Final Day”). Eventually, Michael was found unresponsive and it was following the night he had taken the drugs to help him feel better (1). After getting an autopsy on his body, “the coroner reports that the anesthetic propofol has been found with sedatives in the pop star’s system, creating a lethal mix”  which was given to him by Dr. Murray (1). This ultimately led to his death being ruled a homicide and sentencing Murray to at least four years in prison (1). This theory was proven; however, there were multiple things that had led to Jackson’s death in the end.

Overall, Michael Jackson’s death did not sit right with many people in this world. There were so many unanswered questions to what could have happened to this beloved pop star. These theories have shaken up the world, and we will never get to truly uncover or understand what went on behind closed doors of the Jackson residency.
